A standing cabinet designed for easy disassembly and repair, with distributed design and repairability philosophies in mind.
This standing cabinet was designed and made with the philosophies of repairability and distributed design in mind. The Open cabinet is assembled using only glueless knock-down joinery, meaning that the entire cabinet can be easily disassembled. The purpose of this is to allow a piece to be easily removed from the cabinet should it be damaged. The full technical drawings of each piece are available to the user, allowing them to then use distributed design principles and have a replacement piece crafted by a local maker.
This slow repair and evolution of the piece over time prolongs its life and gives the Open Cabinet a unique narrative opportunity.
